KSIDC is implementing several large infrastructure projects on behalf of Government of Kerala, and the Life Sciences Park at Thiruvananthapuram figures prominently among such prestigious projects taken up by KSIDC. Bio360 Life Sciences Park, an initiative of KSIDC is located on side of the National Highway at Veiloor Village, near Thonnakkal in Thiruvananthapuram (about 22km. from Thiruvananthapuram city). KSIDC has taken possession of 70 acres of land out of 75 acres proposed to be acquired in first phase and an extent of 86 acres of land has been taken possession subsequently out of 130 acres of land proposed to be acquired for second phase of development of the Park.
The Bio 360 Life Sciences Park is India's first research focused park withan integrated approach covering all segments such as medical technology, pharmaceuticals, healthcare, biotechnology, animal health and industrial biotechnology. The first phase of the project is coming up in 75 acres of land. Necessary infrastructure, in terms of dedicated power supply (3 MVA), water linkages (1 MLD), internal roads, drainage system etc. has been completed and developed land is ready for allotment to life science based companies. It may be noted that KSIDC has decided to earmark Five Acres of land in 1st phase of the Life Sciences Park for pharmaceutical projects falling in the non-polluting segments of the industry.
KSIDC, in association with renowned biotech institutions in the State, is developing state-of-the-art facilities and enabling ecosystem for the growth of Life Sciences /Biotechnology based industries in the Park. Some of the major projects coming up in the Life Sciences Park include the MedSpark (Medical Devices Park), a joint venture between KSIDC and SCTIMST (SreeChitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology), and an Advanced Virology Institute, which is a prestigious project of the Government of Kerala. KSIDC is also establishing a biotech innovation zone within the Life Sciences Park aimed at providing facilities and infrastructure for life science based start-up companies for R&D, incubation, pilot manufacturing etc. A cGMP compliant bio processing facility is envisaged as part of the bio innovation zone.
The Life Sciences Park, when functional, would be geographic cluster of industry (IT, Nano technology, biotechnology & Life Sciences), research institutions and sci-tech academia and would address the IT related needs of the rapidly emerging life sciences industry and is expected to attract investments (both domestic and foreign) in the related areas. The Park would provide developed plots for large and Integrated Bio-IT companies to set up their campuses and ready-to-use modular officers, wet and dry lab space for intermediate, small and start-up companies.
