Botanical Extract to manage borer pests of banana and other fruit crops – Shreya
By Central Tuber Crops Research Institute (CTCRI)
Need for managing borer pests of banana and other
fruit crops in an environmentally friendly way in a
profitable manner, through organic agriculture
Current yield loss of fruit crops by borer pests – 30%
Environmentally safe bioformulation to manage the
borer pests of fruit crops pests
An essential component of organic farming
Product Design and Silent Features
Chemistry and ultrastructure of the mealy substance
was studied and a formulation arbitrarily named as
Shreya was developed to dissolve the waxy coat.
When this formulation is sprayed, its mealy covering
will completely be dissolved and the exposed
immature/ mature stages can now be unable to live.
The bioformulation @ 5-7 ml/litre can be used for
the control the sucking pests like aphids, thrips,
scale insects, mealybugs etc in vegetable crops.
This can also be used for the management of the
noxious pest of banana called pseudo stem weevil
and rhizome weevil
