External Pneumatic Compression Equipment(EPCE) for Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) prophylaxis
By Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences & Technology(SCTIMST)
To improve venous circulation in the limbs of patients suffering from DVT, this is a serious disorder with an estimated annual incidence of one per 1,000 persons per year and a lifetime incidence of 2% to 5%.The major outcomes include mortality, thromboembolism and bleeding.
Product Design and Silent Features
EPSE consists of two parts: one a wearable unit that consists of a set of bladders (foot/ ankle or calf) and an external pumping unit connected to the former through a hose. The bladders are inflated and deflated sequentially maintaining the pressure which can be set (20 to 100 mmHg).Alarms and other safety provisions are made. The device is programmable, portable and power backed.
