Vet varsity sets up research centre

The government will extend all support to develop the Bioscience Research and Training Centre (BRTC), set up by the Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (KVASU), to a world-class research institute, Agriculture Minister V.S. Sunilkumar has said.

Inaugurating the BRTC, set up at the Bio 360 Life Sciences Park at Thonnakkal, here on 17.04.2018 (Wednesday), he said at least Rs. 30 crore was required to develop the centre as envisaged. The government would mobilise funds for the centre as soon as a detailed project report was submitted. The BRTC will do basic research into disease prevention and immune systems in animals. It envisages a virology lab, cell culture lab, molecular biology lab and laboratories for developing new medicines utilising biotechnology.

In the next phase, KVASU is also planning to set up a Lab Animal Research Facility as part of the BRTC, which is the first research project being initiated at the Bio 360 Life Sciences Park .
